The Living Reef Memorial Experience

Reefs are individually hand crafted using natural sea shells, sand, ash, and a bit of ocean friendly concrete. After a thirty day curing period the reefs are loaded onto non polluting sailboats for the journey to the deployment area.

Reefs are placed in over fished areas where they are needed most. Soon after a reef has been placed onto a barren sea floor a beautiful and natural transformation occurs. As reefs become colonized , they grow in size and abundance of life. ºº dramatically transom over fished areas into biologically healthy and productive ecosystems. A Living Reef Memorial is a welcoming positive in an otherwise tragic time.  Families who have gone through the Living Reef Memorial experience feel a great sense of pride when talking about the choice they have made for their loved one.  Families find peace by knowing that their loved one will go on to help our ocean for an eternity. Just beneath the waves, life is being created through cremation. Not long after the reef is installed onto the sea floor a beautiful and natural transformation occurs.  The reef begins to grow and bloom with life as  hundreds of species of marine life attach themselves to the reef. 

The process is simple.  Choose the reef that is right for your situation.  Once you have selected the reef that suits your needs, the next thing to do is to contact us and we will send you our Client Agreement.  This document authorizes us to manufacture a reef for you and stipulates our responsibilities to you and the deceased.  Deliver the completed document to us with the cremains and payment.  Cremains can be hand delivered or sent to our mailing address in the United States via U.S. Postal Service (Return receipt requested).  The post office has specific guidelines on shipping creaming to ensure no mistakes are made during shipping.  Once Living Reef Memorial has taken custody of the cremains the casting will begin one week from the date custody is taken.  One the reef is cast there is a curing time for the reef that is no less than 30 days after casting.   If you wish to view the reef being deployed into the sea the staff at Living Reef Memorial have two options for you.

Video record;  The living Reef Memorial Positive Chain of Custody Policy dictates that we document every step of the process.  Much of that documentation is in the form of video.   Video is taken of the casting and of the deployment.  The footage is then edited and then posted on YouTube for you to view and share.  There is no cost for this service and it is included in the price.
