The Cost
A Living Reef burial is substantially less expensive than traditional burials and helps offset the ecological debt we have left behind. Reefs prices begin at $600.00 and go up to around $4,000.00
Saving the rainforests!
The United States consumes approximately 90 million board feet of rain-forest hardwoods per year in the manufacturing of caskets. The consumption of these hardwoods is a driving force for deforestation of this vital habitat. Ordering a Living Reef means that not one single tree will be harmed in the manufacturing or deployment of your Living Reef and the proceeds from your reef memorial go directly to our habitat preservation and Restoration Project.
Reducing global warming
Living Reef Memorial is committed to being a totally environmentally beneficial company. Our fleet of sailboats all harness the clean power of the wind to move them through the water. Our offices are virtually paperless, and our policies and procedures are designed to be harmonious with nature and our environment. Even the molds we use to cast the reefs are produced with recycled or organic materials. We believe that we set an example for other firms who wish to reduce consumption, increase profits, and maintain a Green corporate culture. We like to say, “life flourishes in our wake.”
Reducing pollution
In 1994 there were 840,000 gallons of embalming fluid used in the United States as body preservative. This hazardous material eventually leaches into the ground water with all the other bio hazardous liquids generated from decaying bodies into the water system you drink. Caskets with all of their paints, adhesives and solvents also eventually break down and enter into the ground water we all use. Living Reef Memorial is the next eco-logical evolutionary step for the burial industry.
Creating an eco-industry
Living Reef Memorial is a business model for the creation of an eco industry that benefits the planet, increases commerce, and creates eco-opportunities to developing nations. The Global Preservation Project/ Living Reef Memorial finds it necessary to create economic motivation for the preservation of habitat and remove the economic motivation for it’s destruction. We have discovered that solving environmental issues at the motivation level is the direction that is most effective. Wealthy Biodiversity and healthy ecosystems are an asset to us all. Coastal fisheries and aquaculture have proven their limits, according to Monterey Marine biologist Lionel Pawlowski, Ph.D., a postdoctoral fellow at Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI). Aquaculture, which was designed to solve the problems of over fishing, has revealed some other problems regarding the quality of the products and some bad environmental effects (such as pollution by feces of high number of fish in semi-closed environments, such as in bays), Dr. Pawlowski’s research has shown. Coastal fisheries are more and more limited by declining populations and with the necessity to go further and deeper. Artificial reefing helps to rebuild fish species to support our population’s growing demand.
Ordering a Living Reef Memorial is simple and easy
Dealing with the loss of a loved one is not the time to be bothered with a complicated process. We understand that there is enough to undertake and we have made this process as painless as possible. The first step in this process is calling one of our agents at 1 800 569 REEF or 7333. The staff at Living Reef Memorial are all human beings and we understand what you are going through. We are here to help, we care, and we understand.
Permanence
A Living Reef is ensured to be undisturbed forever. Unlike traditional burial plots or internments, a Living Reef is designed to remain in the same location and remain completely undisturbed for eternity. After a few days after deployment into the sea the reef begins to take on a life of its own. After several decades the reef is now home to thousands of different species of marine life and becomes encrusted with all kinds of marine life. The form of the reef will change over time depending on the build up of sea life that call your Living Reef home.
A living Reef Memorial will remain in the same location, safe and undisturbed. There is no economic motivation to remove it or destroy it. A Living Reef Memorial creates vital habitat that produces more fish, and more fish means more socioeconomic benefits.
Leaving an ecologically positive legacy
When we pass on, our ecological footprint does not end and even in death we can affect our planet positively or negatively. If you wish to leave a positive legacy for generations to come, than ordering a living reef is something to consider. Not only will your Living Reef create vital habitat for hundreds of species of marine life but the revenue generated by your reef sponsorship goes directly to preserve endangered habitat, rehabilitate damaged habitat, create jobs for the charitable class, and provide preservation education to the reigns where the devastation is most prolific. To leave this world knowing we can continue to provide something positive to all living things is an honorable sentiment of the life we led, the people we affected, and the caliber of our character.
People will remember the last thing you do; let them remember something that reflects who you are.
Maintaining biodiversity
Artificial reefs enhance and help to maintain biodiversity (the number of species in a given area). Deploying artificial reefs are helpful where human impact, such as, over fishing, have been the cause of species extinction or a reduction in the amount and variety of species in a given area.

Safety & security
A Living Reef has no economic reward for their removal or destruction. In addition, due to their location it would be very difficult to destroy, remove, relocate, or vandalize something that requires specialized equipment to reach.
Locating these reefs would also be a challenge for the novice as they are marked only by latitude and longitude. Vandalism and grave robbing have been around as long as there have been cemeteries. Cult rituals and the like are also a problem for cemeteries and mausoleums. A Living Reef will never be disturbed, vandalized, and will never be moved. Your final resting place should be permanent and Living Reef Memorial is just that.
Reducing Species Extinction Rates
The species extinction rates are higher than we have ever documented in the past. Just in the time it takes you to read this post another species has vanished forever. Diminished Bio diversity is also something that leads to species extinction rates and when it comes to fishing we have seen commercial stocks getting smaller and smaller. This is a good indication that the sea is being harvested at a rate it can not recover from and just like this economy it too has a breaking point. If e don’t provide for our resources The economy and the environment that we all need to live will no longer provide the bounty we enjoy now. This ecological debt that we have placed upon our next generation is a crime and a Living Reef is one way to reduce your ecological footprint.
The ocean is a wondrous place and it has given us so very much. How can we give something back? Living Reef Memorial is just such a company. We are a non profit dedicated to the preservation of endangered habitat and the cultures therein. We fight these daunting environmental issues through economics and not by lobbying corrupt government officials. Instead we fight the motivation that drives the destruction and this is money. Money is the one thing that drives the destruction of habitat. The second the habitat is worth more for a commercial endeavor, the habitat gets destroyed. The Global Preservation Project also fights these motivations by re engineering industries that are non eco friendly and transforming them to be ecologically beneficial.
In the case of Living Reef Memorial we have come up with a product that is eco beneficial and replaces an industry practices that has been responsible for creating diseases that has killed thousands of people, is responsible for rainforest deforestation, and leaves us all with a toxic debt that serves no purpose. Living Reef Memorial is truly the next eco logical step for the burial industry and for the health of our oceans.

Green burial alternative for those who choose cremation. Cremation death memorial reef San Diego. The harmful effects of ash scattering in San Diego is apparent by the amount of ash that is scattered. In California we have roughly 140,000 people being cremated each year. It is estimated that over half of those end up in the sea or on our lands. One person is roughly one cubic foot of ash. Now multiply that by half of the people that were cremated that year and we now have a staggering amount of ash that is scattered. Green burial ocean funeral sea urn.
